Einstein Encourages Us to…

  1. Be Curious.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.
  2. Persevere.
It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.
  3. Focus.
Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.
  4. Imagine.
Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
  5. Fail.
A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.
  6. Be Present.
I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.
  7. Create Value
Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.
  8. Change.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
  9. Learn from Experience.
Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience.
  10. Learn Rules. Play Better.
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

I’d like to know…

Which of the above life lessons could you benefit from most at this stage in your life?

The American Creed

It is my right to be uncommon—if I can.

I seek opportunity—not security.

I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole.

I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout.

I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

3 Myths and Truths About Your Strengths

The fulfillment of your dream will require you to, on a consistent basis, use your strengths. World renown “strengths expert” Marcus Buckingham defines a strength as:

Strength: Any activity that makes you feel strong.

The following are 3 Myths and 3 Truths (as outlined by Marcus Buckingham) about your strengths that will hopefully “free you” to use your strengths more often:

Myth 1: As you grow your personality changes.

Truth 1: As you grow you become more of who you already are.

Key ?: What strengths have become more evident as you have grown older?

Myth 2: You grow the most in your areas of greatest weakness.

Truth 2: You grow the most in your areas of greatest strength.

Key ?: What strengths have you seen the most growth in?

Myth 3: A great team member puts his strengths aside and does whatever it takes to help the team.

Truth 3: A great team member volunteers his strengths to the team most of the time.

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

- Kent M. Keith

Question to Consider

“I didn’t attend college, but I’ve never regretted it because skating presented such a great opportunity. I traveled extensively. I experienced so many things that I otherwise wouldn’t have, and I was exposed to so much culture.

I’m not saying that everyone should skip college, but I learned so much that I feel I’m self-educated. When my high school classmates were trying to figure out what they were going to study, I already had a career and a house.”

Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You

There comes a time when you must stand alone.
You must feel confident enough within yourself
to follow your own dreams.
You must be willing to make sacrifices.
You must be capable of changing and rearranging your priorities
so that your final goal can be achieved.
Sometimes, familiarity and comfort need to be challenged.
There are times when you must take a few extra chances
and create your own realities.
Be strong enough to at least try to make your life better.
Be confident enough that you won’t settle for a compromise just to get by. Appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow, develop, and find your true sense of purpose in this life.
Don’t stand in someone else’s shadow
when it’s your sunlight that should lead the way.

“Every one of us, when we were young, had a common trait—we were dreamers. The world hadn’t gotten to us yet to show us that we couldn’t possibly achieve what our hearts longed for…

Eventually, we started to let our dreams die. People began to tell us that we couldn’t do the things we wanted. It was impossible. Responsible people don’t pursue their dreams. Settle down, get a job, be dependable. Take care of business, live the mundane, be content…”
