Have You Been You?

  • A teacher named Sosya, ripe with years and honors, lay dying. His students and disciples asked if he was afraid to die.
  • Sosya: Yes, I'm afraid to meet my Maker.
  • Student 1: How can that be? You have lived such an exemplary life. You have led us out of the wilderness of ignorance, like Moses.
  • Student 2: You have judged between us wisely, like Solomon.
  • Sosya: When I meet my Maker, He will not ask, "Have you been Moses or Solomon?" He will ask, "Have you been Sosya?!"

[God] judges character. And he judges you during wartime, when you’re in action, when you’re down in the trenches. Not when you’re sitting at home, drinking tea.

The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder — waif, a nothing, a no man. Have a purpose in life, and, having it, throw such strength of mind and muscle into your work as God has given you.
